WHM Guide

Requirements for White Mage Job

To become a White Mage you have to have Conjurer leveled up to 30 and Arcanist leveled to 15
Your Job Master is located in South Shroud – Camp Tranquil

Attributes

By the time you get to level 50 you should have 30 attribute points. You may be asking where to put them. All of your attribute points should be placed into Mind (MND).

Mind – Affects healing potency

Piety – Affects maximum MP

Determination – Affects of amount of damage dealt by both physical and magic attacks, as well as the amount of HP
restored by healing spells. Auto-attack potency is also affected.

Critical Hit Rate – Affects the rate at which your physical and magic attacks deal critical damage or restore critical HP. The higher the value, the higher the frequency with which your hits will be critical.

Spell Speed – Affects both the casting and recast timers for spells. The higher the value, the shorter the timers.

Cross Class Abilities

White Mage can take abilities from both Thaumaturge (THM) and Arcanist (ACN). At level 50 you can have 5 cross class abilities. Here are a few you should have:
Swiftcast (THM lvl 26) - Next spell is cast immediately / instantly
Surecast (THM lvl  - Next spell is cast without interuuption
Eye for an Eye (ACN lvl 34) - Erects a magicked barrier around a single party member or pet. Durations 30s.
-Barrier Effect: 20% chance that when barrier is struck, the striker will deal 10% less damage
-Duration: 20s
Virus (ACN lvl 12) - Reduces target's STR, DEX, INT, and MND by 15%
-Duration: 10s
-Grants target immunity to the same effect for 1 minute after effect ends
Blizzard II (THM lvl 12) - Deals ice damage with a potency of 50 to all nearby enemies
-Additional Effect: Bind
-Duration: 8s
-Additional Effect: Grants Umbral Ice ore removes Astral Fire
-Duration: 10s

In my honest opinion you should only need the first three abilities as they are necessary. Virus can be applied by Summoners as they have a more powerful version of it. Blizzard II is to just fill in the last slot of the 5 abilities.

Spell Speed (SS) vs Crit

If you try to look up guides for WHM you’ll find different ways of playing a WHM. Well there are different ways to play a WHM. There is no one way to prioritize your gear. Credit to Layria Sunkeeper but she put it easily enough. If you always heal your tank whenever he/she takes gets hit the Spell Speed is for you.

Spell speed allows more time to move, quicker heals coming out of movement and maximizing throughput.

Crit allows you to have bigger heals when it procs thus saving MP for a potential cure. The downside to crit is that it can cause you to over heal which increases enmity.

A sample stat order for building whm gear would be: Magic Damage > MND > DET > SPS > Crit

Helpful Tips
Credit to Tsuu’s White Mage guide.

1. Regen is an aggro bitch, never cast it on a tank before a pull
Always remember, enmity in FFXIV is very different from other MMO. Tanks need time to build enmity, instead of immediately getting it like other MMOs.

2. Use Stoneskin on a tank before a pull.
This gives your tank (especially PLD) some time to build enmity before you start healing him. Otherwise you will most likely peel off mobs from your tank. Also cast it the end of a trash pull for the next pull.

3. Overhealing = Waste MP and gain aggro.
The hardest thing for most WHM is to get over our OCD to top up the tank to full. Because of our big heals, we always tend to overheal. Try to practice keeping your tank at 90-95% and let Regen do its job for you.

4. Get Swiftcast (THM Lv 26), Virus (ACN 12) and Eye for an Eye (ACN 34) immediately.
Swiftcast is godsent and Eye for an Eye gives you more mitigation for your tank. Do not underestimate what it can do for you especially when your tank is getting hit by multiple mobs. Likewise, Virus help reduces the damage it does on tank.

Do not be afraid to use Swiftcast, use it whenever you need to get a Heal or AOE heal out asap. Sometimes I Swiftcast Protect after a player gets Raised, so he has some protection.

5. Shroud of Saints does 2 things - Regenerates MP and Reduces your Enmity.
Pop it all the time for MP regen (212 MP per tick). Sometimes it’s not worth saving it as an enmity reset. As long as you don’t overheal, and don’t cast Regen on phases where the boss resets his aggro (ie Jump phases in Titan, or Dreadnought drops in Turn 4) you should be safe.

6. If you need to do a burst AOE-heal very quickly (ie Titan Enraged Tumult phase) Swiftcast Medica 2 first, then cast either Medica or Cure 3. In 2.1, Cure 3 has been made very effective in stacked fights i.e. Titan and Ifrit Extreme.
You may need to pop Shroud of Saints to manage your aggro a little.

7. In 8-man parties with a SCH/SMN, always let them Resurrect players first.
They have better mana management than us. A Raise from us is 800mp lost. Remember to communicate this with your scholar first. Tell them they should always be on res duty unless their Swiftcast is on cooldown.

8. Holy is pretty godlike in AOE situations.
Despite the slight nerf in 2.1, it’s still pretty good. Use it for trash mobs.
9. If there’s a shitty DPS who keep pulling mobs before the tank even grabs aggro or constantly standing in AOE circles, sometimes it’s good to let them die.

10. WHM are Gods. Think like one, act like one, heal like one.
