Possible spoilers ahead, you've been warned. :)

My name is Shinryu Starzero, and I am immortal. I can see by your confused look that you don't believe me, but you will by the end.

The world we occupy was once formed with the cooperation of two power beings; the Goddess of light Hydaelyn, and the God of Darkness Zodiark. Their vision of this new world was one where both the Light and the Dark were considered equal, but this was not meant to be. While Hydaelyn had the purest of intentions of being equal to the Dark, Zodiark was intent on showing that the Darkness was the superior.

To further this cause, Zodiark created a legion of immortal beings called the Ascians. Led by their fanatical beliefs that Zodiark is the one true god, they led a rampage against the denizens of the world, layin waste to everything in their path. Death and destruction always followed the Ascian legion.

Not all Ascians were blind followers of the dark however. There was a small group of five Ascians who only wanted to live in peace. They were desirous to protect the world at large and live in harmony with nature. Unfortunately, these 5 souls were not unnoticed by the God of Darkness, and soon enough the legion was sent to destroy the five Ascians who desired peace and tranquility.

The 5 Ascians, sensing that the legion was near, took what they could and fled for their lives. While they were strong in their martial skills, they were also wise enough to know that they stood no chance against the legion. For months they ran to avoid being slaughtered. They prayed to Zodiark and begged to be spared, but their prayers went unanswered. That is when it dawned on them. Instead of praying to the God of Darkness, maybe they should pray to the Goddess of Light.

One night, while resting from their flight, they prayed to Hydaelyn. They prayed harder than they ever have before. However, while they prayed, their pursuers surrounded them unknowingly. The five stopped their prayers and had about to resign themselves to their grisly fate, when a miracle happened. A pillar of light descended upon them and shielded them from the projectiles of the Ascian legion.

Confused by what was going on, the leader of the five looked up to the heavens. They heard a voice in their head, soft and full of love, whisper to them that they shall be the protectors of the light and fight against the encroaching darkness. In a flash of brilliant light, they were lifted up into the sky and away from their intended executioners.

They had escaped certain death, and they thanked and praised her for helping them, however the Goddess was not done. In the chosen five she imbued her power into them. They were granted powers of Light, signified by 6 briliantly colored crystals. She whispered to the five that these crystals all contain a separate and unique elemental power, and they were now theirs to command. The five Ascians were changed from dark personages as a result, and ascended into the fabled Warriors of Light.

With this change and with their newfound powers, the Warriors of Light as they were called went down once again to the surface and waged war with the Ascians. As Ascians are creatures of darkness, they could not stand against the oncoming brilliance of light and were routed at every turn. Soon all that remained were a scant few Ascians. Balance was almost restored to the world and the war seemed at an end. The dark God Zodiark however had no intention of letting the last of his Ascians perish on the earth and transported them away, to hide in the shadows and bide their time when the Light of goodness dwindled.

Seeing no end to the war between Light and Dark, the Goddess Hydaelyn decided to call back the Warriors of Light to live with her in peace. The spirits of the warriors ascended back into the heavens and there they stayed with Hydaelyn until once more the world had need of her fabled heroes. Whenever the light dwindled, the five warriors would return once again and inhabit five beings that shone the brightest at the given time. In them, they will have gained a new body and lent their powers to their new host to help combat the tide of darkness. When the darkness subsided and light shone once again, they released their spirit back into the heavens and allowed their host body to live their remaining lives in peace.

I have seen all of the events in the past happen; from the founding of the Allagan empire to its downfall into chaos and ruin, all the way through to today's Garlean empire. Anytime the evil aura of the Ascians is felt, the Warriors of Light come back to protect the land and its inhabitants from ruin.

I am immortal, however the bodies I reside in are not. Since the Calamity struck, I have resided in four different hosts, each with a different skill. Though they may have perished, their struggle to bring peace to the land lives on in me, and in their honor and memory I will bring an everlasting peace to the land.
